Instagram reels

Instagram reels are a fairly new feature to Instagram, that allows you to create and share 15-second videos on your feed. Instagram’s adoption of “snackable” content in response to the rise of TikTok reflects evolving digital media trends.

You will now see a new icon pop up on your Instagram app, which is dedicated to reels once you make your very first one. You can utilise reels features by editing, adding effects, music or other creative elements to your reels straight from the app itself much like TikTok.

Reels now have a dedicated spot at the top of Instagram’s explore page, allowing algorithmic push to users.

What is the difference between reels and stories?

Despite similarities, combining these features can effectively promote your business, with notable differences to consider.

As mentioned above, Reels offers many editing options, such as AR effects, speed controls, and multi-clip editing. However, stories are a limited time story, although you do now have the option to save as a highlight, this is not something that is easily customisable.

Another notable difference is you have the choice to add your reels to your feed or they can show up in the explore page. Any reel you create will also appear in a dedicated section of your profile, similar to IGTV posts.

Similar to how TikTok works, if you include any original audio it will be attributed to you, and other users can use it to create new reels.
